- Color – If you are looking to buy an authentic gemstone, color is one of the most important criteria to look for. In the case of Blue sapphire, ‘True Blue’ or Royal Blue is the most advisable color. Apart from the authentic blue color, tone, saturation and color consistency considerably affect the gross value of the gemstone. A bright, clarified and intensely saturated stone is valued more than its dark blue and gray counterparts.
- Clarity – Like any other gemstone, finding an absolutely clean blue sapphire stone is not easy as almost every pure blue sapphire will indefinitely contain inclusions. However, the cost of the blue sapphire may vary according to the position, intensity and the nature of inclusions.
- Carat Weight – It is very difficult to find a blue sapphire gemstone that is purely authentic with practically no inclusions. Finding clarity and color in the same gemstone is quite unrealistic. Therefore, it is pretty foreseeable to believe that the price of such a gemstone could cost in millions.
- Cut & Shape – A bright blue sapphire gemstone is comparatively priced higher due to its fine cutting. A flawless cut can ensure less visible inclusions without compromising on the quality of the stone. Generally, oval or round shaped blue sapphire stones are priced cheaper than other customised shapes of the gemstone as the process of cutting can lead to wastage of the gemstone.
- Treatment – The process of heating is used to strengthen the color and tone of the gemstone. Natural gemstones without have undergone this process are considered more valuable than heated or chemically altered gemstones.

How will I know if Blue Sapphire doesn’t suit me?
Blue Sapphire is known as one of the fastest-acting gemstones in Vedic astrology. Traditional texts describe signs like sudden anxiety, disturbed sleep, unexplained losses, or friction in relationships shortly after wearing it as indications the stone may not suit the wearer. If such effects appear, the stone is typically removed right away and discussed with an astrologer. This is exactly why a trial period before committing is so strongly recommended for this particular gemstone.
What is “cornflower blue” and why is it so prized?
Cornflower blue is a pure, medium-toned blue with a velvety texture and no grey or blackish undertone. It is historically associated with the finest Kashmir Sapphires. It’s the benchmark for top-quality colour, though genuine cornflower-blue material is exceptionally rare now that Kashmir’s mines are largely depleted.
Can Blue Sapphire be worn together with other gemstones?
Blue Sapphire pairs well with Hessonite Garnet and Cat’s Eye, since Saturn is considered friendly with Rahu and Ketu. It is generally not combined with Ruby, Pearl or Red Coral without an astrologer’s guidance, since Saturn is considered adversarial to the Sun, Moon and Mars.
What carat or ratti weight is typically recommended?
Given how fast-acting Blue Sapphire is considered, astrologers often suggest starting smaller — commonly around 3–4 ratti (roughly 2.75–3.5 carats) — for an initial trial rather than committing to a large stone immediately, with the final weight depending on the individual’s horoscope.
How is natural Blue Sapphire different from synthetic (lab-created) Sapphire?
Synthetic Sapphire is chemically identical to natural Sapphire but grown in a lab within days rather than over millions of years, so it typically lacks natural inclusions. It can show curved growth lines under magnification. It carries no recognised astrological value despite looking similar, so certification confirming natural origin is essential.
Who should generally avoid wearing Blue Sapphire?
It’s generally not recommended for people with a strong, well-placed, or exalted Saturn, or during certain unfavourable Saturn periods identified by an astrologer, since it can intensify difficult effects rather than ease them and is the core reason a horoscope reading is treated as essential rather than optional for this stone.
How should a Blue Sapphire ring be cared for?
Blue Sapphire is highly durable (9 on Mohs’ scale) and generally handles daily wear well, but should still avoid harsh chemicals; use mild soap and a soft brush is safest, especially if the stone has any surface-reaching fractures.
Does the shape or cut affect Blue Sapphire’s astrological effectiveness?
Oval and cushion cuts are the most traditionally recommended shapes, on the belief that a flat base making direct skin contact transmits the stone’s energy most effectively. Faceted brilliant cuts are considered equally valid by most modern astrologers, provided the stone itself is natural and untreated.
